Frequently Asked Questions
How many specimens can I send to the repository?
You may ship up to 500 specimens per reserved slot. You can reserve multiple slots to send more specimens. For example, if you need to send 1,500 specimens, reserve 3 slots.
Do I need to do anything else?
Yes. This tool is to help organize and schedule shipments; it does not replace existing processes. Please follow the normal process of notifying and arranging the shipment with BRI.
How do I request a dry shipper?
Reference the BRI Shipping Instructions Training. Slide 2 reviews the request process. When requesting a dry shipper an “LN2 Shipper Request,” email must be sent to BRI that includes the following:
- The requester’s laboratory name and LDMS laboratory ID
- Contact person (name, email, phone number)
- Material being sent (protocol and # of sample boxes)
- The complete shipping address where the LN2 shipper should be sent.
If my shipment includes both LN2 and dry ice shipments do I need to fill out separate forms for each shipment type?
Yes. You can only select (1) shipment type option on the form so you do need to fill out multiple forms for a given week if the shipment will include more than one type.
Should I select the week that samples will arrive at BRI or the week I plan to ship the samples?
Labs should select the week they plan to ship samples from their laboratory. Labs should only select slots when they are ready to ship and have all required documentation and shipping tools ready to go (i.e. dry shippers are ready).
What do I do if I do not see available slots on the week I want to ship?
Please select slots on the next available week. For urgent shipments, please contact the Lab Center at UCLA for additional instructions and guidance.
