Courtney V. Fletcher, PharmD

Pharmacology Specialty Lab Director

Courtney V. Fletcher, Pharm.D., received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, with honors, from the University of Wyoming, and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Fletcher is currently Professor of Pharmacy and Infectious Diseases in the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine and Director of the Antiviral Pharmacology Laboratory, Center for Drug Discovery, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Fletcher has devoted his research and practice interests towards the clinical pharmacology of antiviral agents. Dr. Fletcher has served as a member of the FDA Antiviral Drug Advisory Committee, the AIDS Discovery and Development of Therapeutics (ADDT) Study Section, NIH, and the US DHHS Panel on Clinical Practices for the Treatment of HIV Infection. Dr. Fletcher is an elected Fellow, of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Associate Directors

Anthony Podany, PharmD, PhD
Dr. Podany is currently an Associate Professor in the department of pharmacy practice and science at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Podany’s research pertains to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antiretroviral drugs targeted at the human immunodeficiency virus as well as antibiotic drugs used to treat tuberculosis. The focus of his research is to optimize pharmacotherapy for the HIV or TB infected individual so as to bring about superior health outcomes. Dr. Podany is an active pharmacologist on multiple AIDS Clinical Trials Group studies both domestic and international.
Kimberly Scarsi, PharmD, MSc, FCCP
Specialty Lab Associate Director: Dr. Scarsi is a professor and Vice Chair for the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the UNMC College of Pharmacy. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree from Northwestern University.  Dr. Scarsi’s research program focuses on optimizing pharmacologic therapies for persons living with HIV, with an emphasis on global health and sex/gender related issues.

Areas of Interest

The overall goal of the Nebraska PSL is the discovery and application of pharmacologic information on drug exposure and response to optimize therapeutic use and outcomes of antiretrovirals (ARVs) and agents for co-conditions, in particular for tuberculosis (TB) and women’s health.
